Hybrid Walnut (Walnut Forest)

An investment for the future, with performance of 150,000 € to 180,000 € per hectare between 25 and 28 years

Our plants Walnut Hybrid is a product that comes from the seed progenies and MJ209 NG23 x RA x RA
We deliver a certificate guaranteeing the quality and certificate of origin.

For this season we offer our best production of hybrid walnut seedlings, 1 +0.

Los Nogales interspecific hybrids (Regia x Nigra) come from a cross between the male flower of "Royal" and the female flower of the "Nigra." The plants grow and develop very rapidly, mainly because they do not produce fruit. Full vigor (hybrid vigor) is transmitted to the wood.

Increasing your circle round 5cm to 7cm per year, which will allow you to reach over 1 m3 to 25 years or so.

All our material is delivered bare root. With our plants shall be attached the certificate of origin.

Our company has the certificate of registration for the official register of suppliers of plant material in the Generalitat de Catalunya. (E-09-080336)

The period from date of delivery of the plants is from February through March of this year.

Middle or Walnut Juglans interspecific
(Hybrid walnut for wood production)

NOGALES THE HYBRIDS ARE SELECTED FOR PRODUCTION FOREST and qualified

Hybrid walnut Specific care:

• The preparation of the soil before planting:

1) make a good cross-ripping and remove the remains of roots is essential for the subsequent health of the plantation,

2) improving the structure with an input of organic matter is advisable to balance the soil and mineral elements with an adequate basal dressing.

• The water supply:

1) A good planting irrigation is essential,

2) and in the vast majority of potential plantation areas bracket Spanish water during the growing season as well (we need more than 700 mm annual rainfall). Trees should not be subject to water stress for steady growth.

Proper places for growing agricultural land can be fresh and deep soils, land of meadows, pastures or margins of agricultural land among others.

Plant material:

So far is showing that the materials most suited to these conditions of production are hybrids between species of Juglans. Different species of walnuts in the world have shown their ability to interbreed naturally. The result is to obtain hybrid material, known as Juglans medium, characterized by a large force, hybrid vigor, and a very low or no fruit production capacity. This behavior openly favoring vegetative growth provides a valuable basis for forest production.

Among these hybrids, which can be found on the market are controlled seed planting black walnut Walnut x common, and specifically NG23 Mj209 x x Ra and Ra. Both occur in hybrid seed production fields are controlled in France. Both materials such as Mj209xRa Ng23xRa are showing up as very suitable for forest production while the homogeneity of the progeny, its quality is directly dependent on the stringency of the selection made in the nursery of production (there is always a percentage of individuals non-hybrid to be removed).

The force characteristic of these materials recommended plantings to frame 6 mx 6 m, which are 278 trees per hectare. If plantings are made narrower frames should be made several interventions from tree thinning.

The growth of the trees:

Pruning training in this type of logging is essential. The trees must get their final shaft during the early years 6-7 years of planting.

The interventions should be conducted in winter to eliminate misplaced lignified branches in spring if needed regain dominance after late frost damage, and in summer when growth slows outbreaks, to remove the powers that prevent the maintain its natural axis hegemony. From the third year is advisable to maintain the balance of one third of the trunk by 2 / 3 cup height and systematically remove the branches with diameters greater than 3-4 cm.

The growth should always be carefully monitored to avoid imbalances especially in windy areas where the use of mentors can be crucial.

A shortage of hardwood timber has led to consider more intensive production of these species and the implementation of forest plantations. The use of agricultural land for this purpose is relatively recent, France and Italy have been the pioneer countries. The walnut (Juglans sp.) Were among the species targeted in these operations, some of them being short. In Spain the first plantations of walnut made with this concept date back to 1994.

In this type of forest plantations is to shorten the shift of production but in the case of noble, like walnut, without neglecting the quality of the harvested wood. The price of walnut as the quality of the shaft has a wide range of variation that may be from about 600 € / m3 to 2,000 € / m3.

In a walnut farm of intensive, production targets are:

1) a minimum of 3.5 m shaft, free of defects

2) to 1.30 m in diameter (dbh) greater than 45cm,

3) a steady growth rings

4) and an approximate age of 25 years to reach maturity wood.

These requirements will only be achieved with:

1) the use of appropriate plant material,

2) application of appropriate technical training of the trees (during the first 5-6 years)

3) and avoiding situations or plant water stress.

Agroforestry behavioral characterization of twelve genotypes of walnut (Juglans sp.) At two locations in Catalonia

Summary
The behavior of 10 genotypes agroforestry J. regia and Juglans two commercial hybrids, and Mj209xRa Ng23xRa has been evaluated from 1995 to 2000 in two locations: Massanes (Girona) and Prades (Tarragona).

There are three different genotype groups according to their height growth rate:
1) average growth of more than 60 cm / year, corresponding to the two hybrids;

2) average growth of about 50 cm / year, which corresponds to the proge-nies J. regia with sprouts prior to 20 April

3) average growth below 40 cm / year, corresponding to the genotypes of J. regia with sprouting after 20 April.

The evolution of the progenies in height and diameter is significantly tied to the locality. The order in the classification of the progenies for growth, height and thickness, is virtually identical in both locations. The diameter at 2.50 m, the sixth growing season, has a significant dependence on location and genotype: in Massanes higher growth is achieved in Prades and diameter 2.50 m of the hybrids is twice that of the best J. regia.

The dominance and the rightness depend on genotypes. Only two J. regia acceptable forest have an aptitude, especially the two genotypes Italians, "Bleggiana" and "Grazia Maria Boschi.

Hybrids Mj209xRa Ng23xRa and agroforestry have the best record that the genotypes of J. regia studied: lower mortality in plantation, higher primary and secondary growth and good apical dominance and righteousness.
